How to get your gym recommended by ChatGPT
Step 1: Let AI search tools read your site
Check yoursite.com/robots.txt. If it says "Disallow: /" for GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot or PerplexityBot, those tools may not read or cite your pages. Some website builders and security plugins add these blocks automatically. Note that OpenAI lists separate crawlers for search (OAI-SearchBot) and training (GPTBot), so you can allow one and block the other.
Step 2: Answer the questions people ask
- "How much is a membership?"
- "Is it good for beginners / over-40s / women?"
- "What classes are there and when?"
- "Is there a free trial?"
- "Where do I park?"
Step 3: Make it machine-readable
- ExerciseGym or SportsActivityLocation schema with name, address, phone, hours, geo and sameAs links.
- FAQPage schema that matches your visible FAQ.
- An optional /llms.txt file: a short plain-text summary of your gym. It is new and unproven, but cheap to add.
Step 4: Be confirmed elsewhere
AI answers often lean on other sources too: your Google Business Profile, reviews, directories and local articles. Keep your details identical everywhere and keep reviews coming.

Questions
How long does it take to show up in ChatGPT?
There is no published timeline. Search-connected AI tools can pick up page changes once their crawlers revisit, but recommendations depend on many sources.
Is this the same as SEO?
Mostly overlapping. Clear, well-structured pages help Google, Google AI answers and chat assistants alike. The difference is a stronger focus on direct answers and structured data.
Can I check my gym right now?
Yes. The free Gym AI Score checks robots.txt, schema, FAQ, llms.txt and the other signals above.
