Google Business Profile for gyms: the complete setup
Short answer: Your Google Business Profile is often the first thing a prospect sees. For a gym: choose the most accurate primary category (e.g. "Gym", "Martial arts school", "Yoga studio"), fill in every field (hours, phone, website, booking link, attributes, services, description), add real photos of your space and classes, post updates, and ask members for reviews and reply to every one. Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence, and a complete, active profile helps with relevance and prominence.
Setup checklist
- Claim and verify the profile at business.google.com.
- Primary category: the most accurate one; add secondary categories only if true.
- Name exactly as on your signage (no keyword stuffing; it can get profiles suspended).
- Address, service area if relevant, phone, website, and hours (including holiday hours).
- Booking / appointment link to your scheduling tool or free-trial page.
- Services or products: memberships, classes, personal training, with prices where you can.
- Description: what you offer, who for, what makes you different, your trial offer.
- Photos: exterior (so people find the door), interior, equipment, classes, coaches.
Keep it active
- Ask for reviews with your direct review link; never pay for or fake reviews (it breaks Google's policies).
- Reply to every review, good or bad, briefly and personally.
- Post an update or offer regularly.
- Answer questions in the Q&A section if it is available for your profile.
- Link the profile from your website, and make your website's address and phone match it exactly.
